If the candidate doesn’t have access to a data file, and their state party doesn’t make it available, you can typically source the file by submitting a request to the county or secretary of state. That process usually takes about 5-7 days, depending on the way the office handles requests and their responsiveness.

In places where this is our first client, we’ll typically ask them to acquire the voter file for us (it's often faster than us requesting it on their behalf) but after we reach a critical mass of candidates in the area, we’ll begin requesting it on their behalf.

We are however working to partner directly with more state parties (we have our eyes set on Utah and Washington first, though it likely won't roll out until early next year). When that happens we’ll be able to provide the same data that is loaded in VAN as long as the campaign pays the state party for access.
